“Simplicity is the final achievement.”
Recently I've been on an exciting quest, an adventure of sorts, to recreate my musical experience from life in Pine Ridge, the place I grew up. My purpose in this quest is to preserve the musical vibe and heritage of bygone days while intertwining that lost vibe with todays Hip Hop, R&B and Neo-Soul.
Pine Ridge, once rich in untapped music creativity, is a small community on the far east side of Florence, Alabama. Florence is located in the northwest corner of the Alabama State map and is a short 15 minute car drive from Muscles Shoals, Alabama. The city of Muscles Shoals has a rich music history as being the Hit Recording Capitol of the South and the creation of the Muscle Shoals Sound.
This project is a labor of love filled with a passion I've long held near and dear. Each song will tell a story of people, places and events that influenced the shaping of my creative music style.
In the coming months, we will release a series of contemporary instrumentals that capture the essence of what it was like growing up surrounded by the music coming out of Pine Ridge, whether it was listening to Billy Buford's gospel group rehearse Saturday afternoon on his front porch in preparation for Sunday's church performance, having a conversation with Jimmy Hughes (Still Away) about song structure or the mixture of music flowing from various backyard cookouts and the diversity of sound flowing from the radio of various households. I intend to paint seasonal portraits through instrumental music that captures a season of a bygone time.
